On December 7th we sent emails to the candidates inviting them to send us their official bios, as well as campaign press releases and official statements.

We were unable to locate campaign email addresses for Hunter, Giuliani and Thompson. If you know of their email addresses please drop us a note.

December 18th we sent emails to the candidates again (except Brownback who responded immediately to the first email).

FYI we did send an email to Rudy at Giuliani Partners. We really wish these guys would get campaign websites.

GOP Presidential Candidates (announced or with exploratory committees)

The 2008 race will be an  "open seat" election in which a sitting President is not a candidate. Assuming Cheney completes his term in full, the 2008 race will be the first time since 1928 that neither the sitting President nor the sitting Vice President will run for President, though the 1952 general election between Dwight D. Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson did not include a sitting President or Vice President since neither President Harry Truman (who dropped out after losing the New Hampshire Primary) nor Vice President Alben Barkley won the Democratic nomination.

The field has already become crowded with many more expected to announce.

Michael Jesus Archangel (He filed the paperwork, he's from Michigan and go to his site for more information)

Sam Brownback (U.S. Senator from Kansas) - The only candidate to answer our email so far (12/9/2006)

Sam Brownback was born September 12, 1956, and grew up on the farm his family still operates near Parker, Kansas. As a boy with roots in the fertile soil of eastern Kansas, Brownback had a natural interest in agriculture. As a young man, he served as state president and as a national officer of the Future Farmers of America and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University. While at K-State, Sam was elected student body president then went on to earn a law degree from the University of Kansas.

After serving as Kansas' youngest Secretary of Agriculture, Sam was elected to Congress in 1994, representing the Second District of Kansas. As a member of the House of Representatives, Brownback took a leading role in helping reduce the size and intrusiveness of the federal government, reforming the Congress, and to helping return the country to its traditional values.

In 1996, the people of Kansas elected Sam Brownback as their 32nd U.S. Senator, filling out the unexpired portion of Sen. Bob Dole's term. In 1998 and 2004, they re-elected him to consecutive six-year terms.

In the 109th Congress, Brownback serves on several key committees including the Judiciary Committee, the Committee on Appropriations, and the Joint Economic Committee. He also serves as Chairman of the Helsinki Commission, a joint U.S. and European organization committed to safety and security for its member nations.

Brownback is dedicated to several measures vital to all Americans including:

•  Saving and reforming Social Security for current and future generations;

•  Providing tax relief to working families through ending the marriage penalty and providing marginal tax rate reductions;

•  Reforming and streamlining the way the federal government does business;

•  Making the federal tax code flatter, simpler and fairer;

•  Fighting to protect the most vulnerable in our society: the unborn, the weak, the elderly, and the disabled;

•  Ensuring that America continues an aggressive war on terror;

•  Guarding against the erosion of our freedoms and right to govern ourselves.

Brownback is a constant voice for increased responsibility in the entertainment industry. He convened the first congressional public health summit on entertainment violence, and helped uncover the widespread marketing of violent, adult-rated entertainment to children.

Brownback has taken an active role in developing U.S. foreign policy concerning India, Pakistan, Central Asia and Iraq. He is a leader in the U.S. Senate on a variety of important issues ranging from human cloning to addressing the role of the media in public health, identifying innovative solutions to our common environmental concerns, protecting traditional marriage and wholesome family values, and taking a principled stand against embryonic stem cell research.

He and his wife Mary have five children, Abby, Andy, Elizabeth, Mark, and Jenna, and live in Topeka.
